When it comes to customizing Windows 7 Logon, we have covered many free applications like Logon Changer, Logon Screen Rotator and Account Screen Editor. LogonUI Background changer is another freeware tool which allows you to set any image as the background for Windows 7 Logon. This application uses the registry method to change the background of Windows 7 logon.
To set a new background image, select an image which must be JPEG format with size less than 250 KB. You can only select one image at a time. When you click apply, this changes the registry value for HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background. It changes the OEMBackground, value to 1.
It also creates a new folder: \WINDOWS\system32\oobe\info\backgrounds and copies the image to this folder.
You can also do this task manually if you are good in handling registry. If you want to switch back to original image, there is an option in the tool.

Windows Double Explorer for Windows 7
WDE is available in two download packages. One download is a standard MSI installer so that it’s easily installed as you would most apps. The other download is labeled “Copy and Run”, but you might understand that better if I call it the “portable” version. The “Copy and Run” version is simply a zip file that you will have to unpack into a folder to run. I’ve read that this app does not write to the registry so it really can be considered “portable”.
After trying it in Windows 7, I can now show you some of the fine features of this application.
Windows Double Explorer allows you to view two or more folders in the same window. This makes dragging, dropping, copying, pasting and organizing so much simpler than the typical Windows Explorer. However, that’s only the tip of it’s iceberg full of features. Here’s a detailed look at WDE.
A. In this section, you can quickly change the layout from side-by-side to top-over-bottom. Clicking on the “1” and “2” can show you each explorer pane by itself as well.
B. You can drag and drop folders onto this Favorites Bar, and they’ll stay there as long as you need them. This makes for super-fast navigation.
C. In this section are a few standard tools such as “Root”, “Folder Up”,“Back”, “Forward” and “Delete”.
D. Here are the tabs. You can right click on them and add as many tabs as you need. If you need to work in more folders, open up more tabs.
E. Here’s where you access the standard file and folder operations that are featured in normal Explorer windows.
I’m not done yet, there’s even more to show you.
F. What you see above is only a portion of the long list that’s displayed when you click on the “Known Folders” menu. It displays twenty or thirty common folders in Windows 7 that you may need to access quickly.
I hope that’s enough to give you a good taste. There’s more I haven’t covered because I’m still learning to use it.

Fix Windows 7 Black Screen of Death
The symptoms of Black Screen of Death are after logging on there is no desktop, task bar, system tray or side bar. Instead you are left with a totally black screen. Black Screen Fix is a free utility to fix the Black Screen of Death in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
If you have the symptoms, you can use this utility to fix the issue, but in case your PC is already effected with Black Screen of Death, then follow the process mentioned at Prevx;
- Restart your PC
- Logon and wait for the black screen to appear
- Make sure your PC should be able to connect to the internet (black screen does not appear to affect this)
- Press the CTRL, ALT and DEL keys simultaneously
- When prompted, Click Start Task Manager
- In Task Manager Click on the Application Tab
- Next Click New Task
- Now enter the command: “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” http://info.prevx.com/download.asp?GRAB=BLACKSCREENFIX
- Note this command assumes that you are using internet explorer as your browser, or not substitute your browser path and file details for your browser of iexplore.exe or use the Browser option of Task manager to locate it.
- Click OK and your browser should start up and begin the download process
- When prompted for the download Click run, the black screen fix program will download and run to automatically fix the issue.
- Now restart your PC and the black screen problem will hopefully be gone.

There are numerous hidden settings and options are available in Windows 7 which is not easy to change for normal users. You may need to dig registry to uncover these settings. Well instead digging into registry keys which is very inconvenient and rather cumbersome task use Windows 7 Little Tweaker. Windows 7 Little Tweaker is portable utility which lets you to tweak number of settings of Windows 7. Complete list of tweaks available is as follow,
